the Cybernetic Transposition Basic Three-Step.
What we'll cover today involves the third aspect of this process, resolving unconscious conflicts.
That's VERY important, because if those conflicts "hang around" in your unconscious, then trying to achieve a goal can be like driving with one foot on the accelerator (pursuing the goal) with the other foot on the brakes (the unconscious conflicts).
That will get you nowhere fast... or, at best, be a very frustrating ride!
So you want to do whatever you can to resolve unconscious conflicts.
In fact, I present three very powerful ways of doing so in my book.
However, I haven't discovered very many SIMPLE approaches to doing so.
But there is one simple technique that I can share with you now. It's powerful, and it works in a remarkable number of different situations.
It's called Free-Form Writing.
Why is this so easy and why does it work so well?
It's because Free-Form Writing gives your unconscious a chance to "say" things that it normally can't say.
Normally, your conscious mind is closed to most communications from your unconscious.
But this technique is a great way of "getting things off your unconscious mind's chest".
This gives you an awesome, new opportunity:
to take what your unconscious gives you without conscious editing.
And this is monumentally important, because:
a) when your unconscious has "gotten things off its chest," extremely useful information will often come through, and
b) if you respond to that information in an appropriate way, you can greatly improve your level of success.
Now, before we go on, please understand that Free-Form Writing is NOT the end-all and be-all of resolving unconscious conflicts.
That's because it doesn't get nearly as deep as the Super Achievement CT techniques presented in Stuart's ebook.
But, as a starting point, it's really valuable.
It can still make a big difference in the results you get when you set out to achieve a goal.
HERE'S HOW YOU DO IT
Just follow these steps:
1. When you identify an unconscious conflict during your practice - or if upset, confusion, uncertainty or other obvious blockers pop up during the day - first frame the unconscious conflict by writing a description on a clean sheet of paper.
For example: "When I think of having $5,000 in my checking account after paying all of my bills, I suddenly feel tired and discouraged."
2. While focusing on that sign of unconscious conflict
(in this case, "I suddenly feel tired and discouraged"),
sit down in a place where you definitely will not be disturbed (very important)
and, on a pad of paper, start writing what pops up from your unconscious.
3. Now here's the key. DO NOT allow your conscious
mind to interfere with the process. In other words,
write WHATEVER pops up, exactly as it pops up,
and continue writing without stopping for the allotted time (see below).
For example: you might think nothing is popping up because what's in your mind might be, "Nothing's in my mind. I don't have anything to write." However, that is EXACTLY what you write:
"Nothing's in my mind. I don't have anything to write." Then, what might pop up is, "I don't like writing by hand. I HATE writing by hand. This is stupid and I don't want to do it." So you write exactly that, "I don't like writing by hand. I HATE writing by hand. This is stupid and I don't want to do it." Are you getting the point?
(And, it is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT that you do Free-Form Writing by hand!!!)
So, again - write down whatever pops into your mind.
If it's profanity, write it down. If it's obscenity, write it down. If it's judgmental, write it down.
Remember: YOU are the only one who's ever supposed to see this!!! DO NOT EVER show, read or talk about what you have written during Free-Form Writing with ANYONE else.
4. Sometimes, all you'll get is junk because it's
necessary to clear that out of your unconscious, to give your unconscious the freedom to express that, so it can focus on giving you what you want.
Other times, however, you'll get some pearls of wisdom and you'll usually recognize them just as or after you write them.
When that happens, mark them by underlining, boxing, with stars or in whatever way works best for you... and IMMEDIATELY continue with your Free- Form Writing.
5. Initially, do at least 10 minutes of Free-Form
Writing during each session. Set an alarm clock so you don't have to check the time. And, no matter what comes up, continue until the alarm goes off.
Over time, you can increase the length of your Free-Form Writing sessions. Some people I know do it for an hour at a time because they find it very valuable.
However, initially, even if you're the very ambitious type, do only 10 minutes per session for at least a week. Then, if you want, increase to 20 minutes per session, etc.
6. When the alarm goes off, it's not quite the end
of your Free-Form Writing session. There are two more tasks.
First, find the "pearls of wisdom" that you have marked. DO NOT READ ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN. (That's why it's important to mark them clearly while you're doing the Free-Form
Writing.)
Copy those "pearls of wisdom" onto another clean piece of paper and date it.
Then, destroy ALL of the pages you wrote during your Free-Form Writing session. Rip them up and, if you can do so safely, burn them.
Thus, at the end of this step, you will retain only the new page(s) with the "pearls of wisdom." These "pearls of wisdom" are always, by definition, positive insights or positive instructions from your unconscious.
7. As appropriate, implement these "pearls of wisdom." This may involve creating one or more additional
Targets, as taught in previous Lessons.
That's it.
If you do this consistently, you'll feel better about yourself and your results will improve. The improvements will usually be gradual but profound. However, you will occasionally experience quantum leaps.
In either case, thank your conscious self and your Unconscious for their good work!
Best Regards and Joy
